SSB/CW Tube shortwave receiver

Over the years I've wanted to build a complex regen receiver because I have been so unsure and scared of superhets, with tracking and bandwidth and all. So, why not do some combination? I have tons and tons of RF tubes lying around in drawers just waiting to see their filaments glow one last time. And so what I'd like to try is to create a regular superhet, with a regenerative second intermediate stage. That way I can control the bandwidth easily (I think) and most probably get some serious single signal action. Using a product detector straight after and a BFO coupled to that. Manual/automatic selectable gain control. The AGC would probably be taken from a separate envelope detector after the first IF stage because of the amplitude differences caused by varying bandwidth after the regen IF stage.
